Projects I've Worked On

Brain Actuated Technologies

I worked with Andrew Junker, inventor of the Cyberlink Hands-Free Access Device, to refine brain actuated control algorithms and visualization software for his technology. I modified technology to allow for simple control of first-person computer games and I also got to appear on a Discovery Channel special called "Kapow! Superhero Science". This is definitely one of my all-time favorite projects and I am still involved with the technology. Currently the technology is being used to help people with severe physical disabilities to interact with the world.

Wiz-War - GameTable Online

I spent some time developing client/server application that was to be an online port of the classic board game Wiz-War for GameTable Online. This was a project I was doing in my spare time in exchange for royalties when the game was released. Unfortunately I was not able to follow this project through to completion due to an intense workload at my day-job and the new but welcomed time-constraints of fatherhood. :) In any case, I wrote a number of articles in my Wiz-War Game Development Blog that detailed my first attempt to develop a commercial quality game.

Harvest Moon - Save the Homeland - C64 Edition

I am just slightly demented at times and had some great fun working on a backwards/retro port of a Playstation 2 game called "Harvest Moon - Save The Homeland" (HM:STH). It is a farming RPG that I, for reasons unknown, really enjoyed playing. This is a 3D game, but the underlying game mechanics are pretty strait-forward. When I was a teenager I always wanted to write a game on my C64, so using the knowlege I have acquired now-a-days, I decided to try to port HM:STH to an 8-bit Commodore 64 system. I will always have a place in my heart for the old 8-bit computers and I really enjoyed working on this project. I got pretty far along with this project before I put it on hold due to my intense day job work schedule (pre Discovery Channel special).

Sonique Visualization API

I developed a API for viewing Sonique Music Player visualizations in applications OTHER than the Sonique player. Sonique visualization plugins normally are driven by music/audio frequency data but I used this API to drive the visualizations with brainwave (eeg) data instead. I used this work for the Brain Candy visualization application mentioned above in the Discovery Channel segment about the Cyberlink.
